I have owned my car for almost 3 years now. I have only had three things in need of repair at the shop - the drivers side window, a gasket leak (caused by me), and new brake rotors. Otherwise, with regular maintenance, this car has been a reliable and consistent performer. Excellent pick- up, great handling, decent fuel- economy from a domestic V6, and styling that still turns heads. They didnt skimp on interior features either - the seats are comfortable, even on lengthy trips, and passengers arent crammed in as an afterthought. The sound system is solid, and the A/C is still icey-cool.

  • Trouble with this car - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

We have had nothing but problems with this car. 1 month out of warranty, it required a new alternator. We have had to replace a gasket for the transmission fluid. Power steering is going. The fan for heat/AC has been replaced - and currently doesnt work on the lowest two speeds. We will not be purchasing a Pontiac for a long time, if ever.

  • Wouldnt Buy Another One - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I bought my 1999 Grand Am GT Sedan brand-new from the dealer and had nothing but trouble from the start. First the entire break system went out, not once but multiple times within the first year. In the second year, the head gasket had to be replaced (and yes, I mainted my car religiously). The radiator had problems for the first couple of years and had to be replaced. The Alternator went out 4 times in year 3 of ownership. The wind noise in this vehicle is TERRIBLE. This car performs very poorly on wet roads. This is a beautiful car; I love its style and look. Its fun to drive. But if youre looking for dependability, look elsewhere.

  • Something to Think About - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I thought of 3 good things to say about the 99 that I own. It is a reliable car. It starts right up in the winter. It still turns heads (even for all the wrong reasons!). It has some good speed. However, I have had to bring it into the dealer 3 times for the same problem. The windows keep falling off track. Working windows are important. I have found that the apoxied plastic clips on the windows seem to come "unglued" or brittle in extreme temps. I have also had to change the brakes, rotors, and belts that should last. I am not completely dissatisfied, but I will think twice before I purchase another one. My only advise with this car is if you use your windows a lot, pass on this car.

  • Great car - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I have had this car for over 6 years, and I have put over 125,000 miles on it. The car is a great buy. we are looking to buy something bigger with our 3rd child on the way. I did go through a lot of brake pads, and replaced the drivers window regulator 1 time. The dealer did tell me about the aggressive braking system before I bought the car. All other repairs were normal (oilchanges, battery 1 time, tires). Easy to work on for the do it yourself person.

Hey. This car is great. Bought used and wondering how they messed up the cruise, but it gets great gas mileage for a six, like 345 miles to a 12 gallon tank, plus is just all out comfortable. I will get an 04 next year before they change it to the G6.

Bought when they first changed body style. Unibody construction is much better than the older type so much more solid built. Problem areas front brake rotars need turning if vibration. Have 43,000 miles and almost 5 years. Chg one battery, alternator, window washer pump and window regulator for elect windows Still Warranty. Owned various other Grand Ams this best except no V-8 like early 70s Most problems occured after mfg warranty so always purchase ext. warranty if plan to keep car longer than 3 years and 36,000 miles recomended.

  • Get the extended warranty! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Two years after purchasing, the altenator needed to be replaced. The brakes have been replaced several times and even with heavy duty brake pads, it still makes noise. This year, the steering rack and pump needed to be replaced and the springs have broken off the struts. The rubber molding around the windows leaks when it rains hard. Get the extended warranty, youre going to need it.

  • Fun to drive with minor problems - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I bought my Grand Am GT1 with 40,000 miles. Its the nicest car I have ever owned so far even better then my 95 Camaro. Lots of power through out the power curve. But around 50,000 miles I started experiencing the typ. rubbing brake noise, tire pressure light comes on(tires are fully inflated),CD player display doesnt work, fan setting 1-3 dont work, new battery, leaks water if parked at a angle (3 inched of water by my gas peddle),paint is pealing between my door window and back window, Other then that it has been a good car.
